The honorable Minister of Ministry of education Mr. Nurul Islam Nahid M.P. has said that the knowledge & science based new generation, inspired by patriotism will change the nation’s fortune. He claimed that the universities have very significant role to play to build a world class new generation. The whole nation is behind the universities. Hundred percent of their development budget and ninety five percent of their other expenses are fulfilled from public money. So the people expect that the universities will produce such a generation, skilled with science and knowledge that they will build a developed & prosperous country. The advancement of science and engineering education in the country has brought out enormous positive changes in the field of knowledge and created so many job facilities, he added. He urged the science and technology based universities to play a supportive role along-side the government’s endeavors in building a digital Bangladesh.

The Education minister presided over the Convocation ceremony on behalf of the Chancellor and Honorable President of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. He was addressing the 2nd convocation of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) on Saturday. He called upon the students to take the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century to build themselves as worthy citizens just like world class citizens. I believe that with your intellect, talent, creativity, determination honesty and patriotism you will implement the government’s ‘Vision-2021’ to build an information technology based prosperous Bangladesh and take the country to a much higher place among the other nations of the world, honorable minister observed.

Professor Emeritus Dr. Jamal Nazrul Islam, a prominent Scientist & academician of Cittagong University was the Convocation Speaker. In his speech he said that a minimum knowledge of science is very essential. We need to have very clear knowledge about the fundamental thoughts of science from the very early age. For this mother tongue is the best language.

KUET Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir delivered welcome address at the function held at the university’s central playground, with much enthusiasm among the graduates and other. The VC of KUET said that the name & fame of this university has been spreaded out at home and abroad. It has been possible only for the utmost dedication of teachers of this university. KUET will be an ideal university of the South-East Asia region if all the planned expansion works can be completed.

Dean of Faculty of Civil Engineering Prof. Dr. Md. Bazlar Rahman, Dean of Faculty of Electrical & Engineering Prof. Dr. Ashraful Ghani Bhuiyan and Dean of Faculty of Mechanical Engineering Prof. Dr. A. N. M. Mizanur Rahman introduced the graduates to the Education Minister for the confirmation of their degrees. A total of 2555 Ph.D, M.Phil. M.Engg. B.Sc. graduates were given certificates at the convocation ceremony. Twenty-six among them were honored with University Gold Medals for their outstanding academic performances.

Distinguished guests including members of the National Parliament, intellectuals, litterateurs, Vice-Chancellors of different universities, political leaders, faculty members and officers, graduates of the university and their parents and local journalists were present.

Established in 1967 as Khulna Engineering College at Phulbarigate of Khulna city, the academic activities of this institute was started in June, 1974. Later it was upgraded as Bangladesh Institute of Technology (BIT), Khulna on July 1986 and then in September 2003 it was elevated to the status of a full-fledged Engineering University as Khulna University of Engineering & Technology

The first Convocation of KUET was held in 2006.
