A three-day long (10-12 February 2013) 3^rd International conference on Solid Waste Management in Developing Countries WasteSafe 2013 successfully held at KUET. The experts, participating at the conference expressed their hope highly that this conference will begin new horizon in solid waste management sectors in the developing countries. KUET, in co-operation with Bauhaus University, Weimer of Germany, University of Padova Italy, International Waste Working Group (IWWG) and ORBIT Association jointly organized the conference aiming to exchange views and experiences at international level and to understand solid waste management concept as a whole. Administrator of Khulna Zila Parishad Sheikh Harunur Rashid inaugurated the conference as the Chief Guest on 10 February Sunday at 3:00 p.m. while KUET Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir was in the Chair. Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir delivered welcome speech. Prof. Dr. Echard Kraft of Bauhaus University Weimar Germany, Prof. Dr. Raffaello Cossu of Padova University Italy, Prof. Dr. Werner Bidlingmaier of Orbit Association, Prof Liz Bachhuber of Bauhaus University Weimar, Germany, Prof. Dr. Kh. Md Shafiul Islam who is the Head of the Department of Civil Engineering KUET and Director of Water and Sanitation in Developing Countries Eyabag, Switzerland Christian Zurbag addressed the inaugural session.  Waste experts from different countries including Bangladesh, Austria, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Africa, and Switzerland participated in the conference. A total number of 100 technical papers including two key-note papers were presented where research scholars, experts, engineers, professionals of related field exchange views among themselves.

On February 12 at 4:00 p.m. the closing of the conference was held at the seminar room of KUET. Prof. Dr. Echard Kraft, Prof. Dr. Raffaello Cossu, Prof. Dr. Werner Bidlingmaier, Prof. Dr. G. N. Chattopadhyay, Visva-Bharati University, India, Dr. Nawa Raj Khatiwada, Kathmandu University, Nepal spoke on the closing ceremony. Conference Dinner and an attractive cultural program were held in a local hotel in this connection. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir thanked everybody for the successful closing of the conference. He declared that the 4^th Int’l Conference on WasteSafe will be held on 8-9 February 2015. This time WasteSafe 2013 is the third international conference at KUET. Before this the 1^st and 2^nd conference as WasteSafe 2009 and WasteSafe 2011 were successfully held in 2009 and 2011 respectively.
