  • KUET paid homage to the martyred Intellectuals

  • Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) observed Martyred Intellectuals Day on  December 14, 2011 Wednesday by paying respect to the country’s most illustrious sons who were brutally killed by the Pakistani occupation forces and their collaborators in an effort to rid the country of its intelligentsia just two days before the final victory in the nine-month bloody war with Pakistan in 1971.


    The authorities of Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) took elaborate programmes to observe the day in a befitting manner. Black flags were hoisted and the national flag flew at half-mast atop all important buildings including the Vice-Chancellor’s office at 6:30 a.m. Later at 10 a.m. teachers, students, officers and employees gathered and brought out a procession led by the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir. At 11: 00 a.m. a discussion meeting was also held at the university auditorium with Director (Students’ Welfare) Prof. Dr. Shibendra Shekher Sikder in the chair. Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir was present there as the Chief Guest. Among others Director (IICT) Prof. Dr. Md. Keramat Ali Molla, Director (Research & Extension) Prof. Dr. Tarapada Bhowmick, Head Of Leather Engineering Department Prof. Dr. Md. Syed Ali Molla, Head Of IEM Department Azizur Rahman, lecturer of  Leather Engineering Department Md. Masum, Deputy Registrar G M Shahidul Alam and among staff  Sk. Toyebur Rahman, Maksudul Islam Pathan Md. Rabiul Islam spoke in the meeting. The speakers called for an early trial of the war criminals and the killers of the intellectuals.


    After the meeting Hon’ble VC signed on a mass signature program, arranged By KUET Chatra League demanding the early trial of the war criminals & criminals against humanity of 1971 war. After Asr prayer a milad-mahfil was arranged at the KUET central mosque to pray for the departed souls of the nation’s illustrious sons. Procession of candle light, cultural programmes related to Intellectuals Day and a drama “Lashghar” played by KUET theatre were also held at the auditorium at 7:00  p.m.


    KUET Teachers Association also brought out a procession and a discussion meeting on 14 December to pay homage to the martyred Intellectuals.
