Two days long (25-26 February 2023) 8th International conference on Solid Waste Management in South Asian Countries WasteSafe 2023 successfully held at KUET. The experts, participates at the conference expressed their hope highly that this conference will bring new horizon in solid waste management sectors in the developing countries. KUET, Bauhaus University, Weimer of Germany, University of Padova, Italy and International Waste Working Group (IWWG) jointly organized the conference aiming to exchange views and experiences at international level and to understand solid waste management concept. Vice-Chancellor of KUET Prof. Dr. Mihir Ranjan Halder inaugurated the conference as the Chief Guest on 25 February Sunday at 9:00 a.m. Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir, Chair, WasteSafe 2023 International Conference, Member of UGC and Former Vice-Chancellor of KUET, delivered welcome speech and presided over the function. Pro-Vice Chancellor of KUET Prof. Dr. Sobahan Mia; Dr. Paolo Russo, Hon'ble past Parliament Member and President of Tavolo di Roma, Italy; Mr. Ganesh Shah, Hon'ble Former Minister, Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology, Nepal participated in the Conference as Special Guest. Theme Paper presenter Prof. Dr. Raffaello Cossu, Italy and International Waste Working Group (IWWG); On behalf of Organizers Prof. Dr. Echard Kraft, Bauhaus University Weimar, Germany, addressed at the inaugural session.

A Theme Paper "Landfill mining: a solution for remediation, recovery of resources and sustainability" presented by the Prof. Dr. Raffaello Cossu at the inaugural session. Waste experts from different countries including Germany, Italy, Japan, Nepal, Sweden, India, Bangladesh participated in the conference. On February 25 at 07:30 p.m. Conference Dinner and an attractive cultural program were also held in a local hotel in this connection. A total number of 102 technical papers including, 2 Key-note Session, 6 key-note papers, 1 theme paper were presented in 10 parallel technical session where research scholars, experts, engineers, professionals of related field exchange views among themselves.

On February 26 at 05 p.m. the closing of the conference was held at the Student Welfare Centre (SWC) of KUET. Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir, Chair, WasteSafe 2023 International Conference presided over the function. Prof. Dr. Echard Kraft, Bauhaus University Weimar, Germany; Prof. Dr. Raffaello Cossu, Italy and International Waste Working Group (IWWG); Mr. Ganesh Shah, Hon'ble Former Minister, Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology, Nepal addressed at the closing session. Chair of WasteSafe 2023 Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir thanked everybody for the successful closing of the conference. Before this conference of WasteSafe 2023, the first, second, third, fourth, Fifth, Sixth, Seventh conference were successfully held in respectively 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, 2021.
