  • CLEAN CAMPUS SAFE CAMPUS Campaign of Bangladesh Chhatra League at KUET

  • The ‘CLEAN CAMPUS SAFE CAMPUS’ was took place at the campus of Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) on 2 December 2014 by the students leaders and supporters of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), KUET Branch, as part of week-long campaign taken by central BCL all over the country. Huge number of Students lead by Nayan, President and Sohan, General Secretary, of KUET unit BCL took part in the cleanliness campaign in the entire campus wearing white T-Shirt specially made for this campaign. BCL, KUET unit placed several dustbins of different colors in the campus for solid waste storage. The students also meet Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir, the Vice-Chancellor of KUET at his office to brief the details of their efforts. They also handed over a T-Shirt to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Alamgir appreciated their efforts very much and promised to do all to make clean, hygiene, green and safe campus.


  • Opening of New Block in Rokeya Hall of KUET

  • A new block up to second storied, the extension of Rokeya Hall of KUET, was opened by the Vice-Chancellor of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir, on last December 1, 2014 at 11:00am for the accommodation of female students. It will solve the long standing accommodation problems of the female students of KUET up to some extent. In the opening ceremony Prof. Dr. SS Sikder, Director (P&D); Dr. Sobhan Mia (DSW in charge), Ms. Shuheli Shaila Ahmed, Provost Rokeya Hall, Dr. Md. Julfiker Hossain, Chief Engr. (in-charge), Provosts and Assistant Provosts of the Hall, Engineers and high officials of Planning and Engineering Sections, and other high officials, staffs and the students of the Rokeya Hall were present. Prof. Alamgir highly praised and thanked the MoE, UGC, Planning & Engineering Section of KUET and the Construction Firm for their initiatives and support. He also hoped that the extension of the new block i.e. 2nd and 3rd floor will started soon after the approval of Finance Ministry.


  • High Officials from MoE and UGC visited KUET to see ongoing construction.

  • A four members team comprising the high officials from the Ministry of Education (MoE) and University Grants Commission Bangladesh (UGC) visited KUET on 29 November 2014 to observe the ongoing construction activities specially under the renovation and repairing works of old infrastructures. The team members are the Mr. Swapan Kumar Gosh, Chief Planning and Omar Md. Imrul Mohsin, Deputy Chief Palnning, from MoE and Engr. Abdur Rezzaq, Director (P&D) and Dr. Nasima Rahman, Project Director from UGC. They meet Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir, the Vice-Chancellor of KUET at his office at 10:30am. During that time, Prof. Dr. SS Sikder, Director (P&D); Engr. ABM Mamunur Rashid, Chief Engineer.; Engr. Anisur Rahman Bhiuyan, Deputy Director, Dr. Md. Julfikar Hossain, Ex. Engr., Mr. Abu Hayet, Ex. Engr.; Engr. Iqramul Haque, AD, Engr. Aslam Parvez, were present. The team visited the entire campus to see ongoing construction works and also the completed works. After the field visit, the PIC meeting was held presided over by the Vice-Chancellor of KUET. The team members expressed their satisfaction on the completed and ongoing works and gave some suggestions. The team also applauded the recent development took place at KUET under the leadership of present VC of KUET Prof. Alamgir. They also praised the greenery and cleanliness of the campus.


  • Inter Univ. Debate & Recitation Competition Ended Successfully at KUET

  • The two days long (28-29 Nov. 2014) Association of Universities of Bangladesh (AUB) Inter University Debate and Recitation completion were ended successfully in KUET campus. On 29th Nov. Saturday, as the Chief Guest, Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir, the Vice-Chancellor of KUET, handed over the token prizes to the winner at a simple closing ceremony in the KUET auditorium. Prof. Dr. SS Sikder, Dean of CE, Prof. Dr. Syed Ali Mollah, Dean ME, Mr. Md. O.G. Nayeem, DSW (in-charge) were present as the Special Guests while Mr. Helal-An-Nahiyan, Moderator, KDS, presided over. In the Bangla Debate, the team from CU became the Champion, while KUET’s team became the Runner-up. In English Debate, the team from JU became the Champion, while KUET’s team became the Runner-up. In recitation, JU became 1st, while IU became 2nd and CU became the 3rd. The prize giving ceremony will be held in Dhaka on next 12 Dec. 2014.


  • Inter Univ. Debate & Recitation Competition Started at KUET

  • Today, the 28 November 2014 at 10:00am, the Inter University Debate (both Bangla and English) and Recitation (Bangla) were kicked-off in the green campus of Khulna University of Engineering & Technology in a festive mood. The team from different public universities already arrived in the campus to participate in the event. This program is organized by the Association of Universities of Bangladesh (AUB), the apex body of the public universities in Bangladesh, locally coordinated by the Director of Students Welfare (DSW) and KUET Debating Society (KDS). Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir, the Vice-Chancellor of KUET, inaugurated the event in front of the KUET auditorium by hoisting the national flag with the national anthem. While, Mr. Md. O.G. Nayeem, DSW (in-charge) and Mr. Helal-An-Nahiyan, Moderator, KDS, hoisted the KUET and AUB flags. The competition will took place in four parallel venues and will be ended on tomorrow evening in a Closing Ceremony at KUET Auditorium just after the final round of Bangla debate.


  • Journalist Team from BAU made a courtesy call to the Vice-Chancellor of KUET

  • On 27 November 2014, Thursday, a 15 member team of Journalists from Bangladesh Agriculture University made a courtesy call to the Vice-Chancellor of KUET, Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir at his office at 10:00am. The team briefed various activities they have been conducting at the BAU campus to maintain the excellent academic environment. The team members applauded the recent development took place at KUET under the leadership of present VC of KUET Prof. Alamgir. They praised the greenery and cleanliness of the campus. Prof. Alamgir thanked them for visiting KUET.


  • KUET Demands exemplary Punishment for the Killers of RU Teacher

  • Teachers, Students, Officers and Staffs of Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) from different departments and sections staged demonstration and formed “HUMAN CHAIN” wearing black badge in front of ‘Durbar Bangla’ on the campus on 20 Nov. 2014 from 11:00 to 11:45am demanding immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of the Killers of Rajshahi University Teacher Prof. K.M. Shafiul Islam. Progressive and Responsible Teachers of KUET arranged this demonstration program at KUET campus. Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir, the Vice-Chancellor of KUET was also present. The speakers at the demonstration urged the law enforcing agencies to arrest the killers to ensure exemplary punishment without further delay.


  • Presentation of Ph.D. Research and Japanese Construction

  • A seminar was held at the meeting room of Administrative Building of KUET on last 10 Nov. 2014, at 3:00pm, in which Dr. Md. Julfikar Hossain, the Executive Engineer of KUET, described the scope and main outcomes of his Ph.D. dissertation and illustrated some aspects on the present construction practices in Japan. Dr. Julfikar acquired Ph.D. from Saga University in the month of Sept. 2014 with the dissertation title as “Coefficient of Consolidation of Clayey Deposits from Piezocone Test Results”.Prof. Alamgir, the VC of KUET was present as the Chief Guest, while the Teachers, Engineers and Officers from the relevant departments and sections including Prof. SS Sikder, Dean of CE Faculty, Engr. ABM Mamunur Rashid, Chief Engr. were present. Dr. Julfikar stressed the need to follow the new outlook in the construction of buildings in our country. It is to be noted here, Dr. Julfikar got his B.Sc.Eng. in 2002 and M.Sc. Eng. degree 2007 from the CE dept. of KUET and Prof. Alamgir was his Masters’ supervisor. Dr. Julfikar was greeted warmly by flowers for timely completion of Ph.D. from Japan and also for resuming his job here.


  • KUET‘s 1st Year Admission Test (Session 2014-2015) Result was Published

  • The Admission Test result for the 1st year of B.Sc. Eng. and BURP enrollment in Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) was published on 03 November 2014. Total 810 students (excluding reserve seats) was selected and placed in the MAIN MERIT LIST for admission, while another 2682 students was selected and placed in the WAITING MERIT LIST for admission if the seats remain available after the admission from main merit list.

    The admission from main merit list will be conducted on 20 and 21 December 2014, while the admission from waiting list will be started from 03 January 2015 and continue till 14 Feb. 2015 if the seats remain available. During admission, the selected students need to appear before the admission committee in KUET campus at the designated date with necessary documents. 

    However, before that for admission all the interested students placed in both the main and waiting merit lists (total 3492) need to choose the Department in order of preference through online during the period of 23, November to 15, December 2014.

    In this session (2014-2015) total 815 students will be admitted in the 11 Department under 3 Faculty of KUET as 120 students in each department of CE, EEE and ME; 60 students in each department of CSE, ECE, IEM, URP, LE, TE and BECM; 30 students in BME and 5 reserve seats. The tentative date of orientation and class start is scheduled as 09 April 2015. Details can be obtained from the website (admission.kuet.ac.bd).

     


  • Admission Test at KUET was held peacefully

  • The Admission Test for the 1st year of B.Sc. Eng. and BURP enrollment in Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) for the session 2014-2015 was held on 31 October 2014. Total 6643 students i.e. 84% was attended in the Admission Test, which is a record. The test was held in KUET campus as well as the nearby campus of HSTTI, TT College, Laboratory High School and TTC (Boys and Girls). The result will be published on or before next 06 November 2014 in KUET website and SMS will be sent to the selected students. The date of admission will also be declared at that time.

    In this session (2014-2015) total 815 students will be admitted in the 11 Department under 3 Faculty of KUET as 120 students in each department of CE, EEE and ME; 60 students in each department of CSE, ECE, IEM, URP, LE, TE and BECM; 30 students in BME and 5 reserve seats.


  • All sets for the Admission Test at KUET on 31 October 2014 Friday at 9:30 AM

  • The Admission Test for the 1st year of B.Sc. Eng. and BURP enrollment in Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) will be held on next 31 October 2014, Friday from 09:30 to 12:00.Total 7942 students completing twelve years schoolings with higher GPA in the year of 2014 will seat in this highly competitive examination against 815 seats available in the 11 Department under 3 Faculty of KUET. The authority completed all the necessary arrangements for holding the examination in a peaceful environment at KUET campus as well as the nearby campus of HSTTI, TT College, Laboratory High School and TTC (Boys and Girls). The list of the eligible candidates and the Examination Hall of seat arrangements have already been informed to the respective candidate via SMS on last 20 October 2014, which is also already published in the Undergraduate Admission website of KUET(admission.kuet.ac.bd).

    In this year for the first time, 30 students will be admitted in Biomedical Engineering at the undergraduate level, while 120 students in each department of CE, EEE and ME and 60 students in each department of CSE, ECE, IEM, URP, LE, TE and BECM; and also 5 reserve seats.


  • Online Application for Undergraduate Admission in KUET began

  • The online application for the first year B.Sc. Engineering and Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning (BURP) courses admission of 2014-15 academic session of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) began on 23 September 2014 Tuesday. The Vice-Chancellor of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir inaugurated the online application in presence of an applicant who complete the application form held at KUET Central Computer Centre at 10:30 AM. Among others Chairman of the Admission Test committee 2014-15 and Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering Prof. Dr. Md. Syed Ali Mollah, Deans of other faculties, Departmental Heads, Directors, Chairman of Computer Centre, Registrar, Controller of Examinations and other officers related to the online registration were present in the function. The online application will continue till 14 October 2014. The admission seekers have been asked to pay admission fees by October 15 through SMS. The list of qualified applicants of the admission test will be displayed on 20 October 2014. The Admission Test will be held on 31 October Friday at 9:30 am to 12:00 pm.

    In the academic session 2014-2015 this year a total number of 815 students will be admitted in 11 Departments such as 120 seats for Civil Engineering (CE), 120 seats for Electrical & Electronic Engineering (EEE), 120 seats for Mechanical Engineering (ME), 60 seats for Computer Science & Engineering (CSE), 60 seats for Electronics & Communication Engineering (ECE), 60 seats for Industrial & Production Engineering (IPE), 60 seats for Lather Engineering (LE), 60 Seats for Textile Engineering (TE) Departments, 60 seats for Building Engineering & Construction Management (BECM), 60 seats for Urban & Regional Planning(URP), 30 seats for Biomedical Engineering with 5 seats reserved.

    Applicants are asked to collect every information about the process of online application from the university website (www.admission.kuet.ac.bd).   • Farewell of Civil Engineering Department held

  • Civil Engineering (CE) Association of KUET celebrated farewell of `09 batch students on 23 September, 2014 at the University Auditorium. Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Muhammed Alamgir graced the occasion as the chief guest while, Dean of Faculty of CE Prof. Dr. Shibendra Shekher Sikder and Director In-Charge (Student’s welfare) Dr. G.G. Md.Nawaz ali present as the special guest. President of CE Association and Head of the Department of CE Prof. Dr. Md. Saiful Islam presided over the ceremony. Among Others Lecturer of CE Department Sagar Ghos and Student Md. shawan Shariar, Muntasir Mamun, Md.Towhidul Islam Kanak, Mehadi Hasan Mishuk, Tanmoy Debnath, Mominul Islam, Shisir Chandra Das spoke on the function. At the ceremony crest handed over the graduates by the guests.The teachers and students of CE department, officers, staffs were present in the function.


  • KUET-IITB meeting held

  • A delegation of the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) and German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) visited Khulna University of Engineering Technology (KUET) on September 18, 2014 in their effort to offer more scholarships to KUET faculty members and students. At 3pm a discussion were held at the Meeting room of kuet administrative building between KUET and IITB while vice-chancellor of KUET Professor Dr. Muhammed Alamgir was presided The function. The delegation was lead by Prof. Dr. Devang V. Khakhar, Director, IITB, who was accompanied by Deputy Director of IITB, Prof. Dr. Rajeev Dusane and Dean (International Relation) of IITB Prof. Dr. Subahasis Chaudhuri. Among Others Lecturers of DAAD Marie Kretzschmar, Senior_Advisor (Public Relations & Information) of DAAD Adity Ghoshavi, Senior_Advisor (International Relations) of DAAD shikha Sinha and from Rhine-Wall University Gautom Shaha were present in the function.

    Dean of Civil Engineering Faculty Professor Dr Shibendra Shekhar Shikder, Dean of Mechenical Engineering(ME) Faculty Prof. Dr. Md.   • Ph.D. was awarded to Md. Rafizul Islam

  • Md. Rafizul Islam acquired Ph.D. on last 30 August 2014 from the Department of Civil Engineering, Khulna University of Engineering & Technology, Bangladesh. The academic council of KUET awarded this Ph.D.  degree to Md. Rafizul Islam in its 47th meeting held on last 16 September 2014. The title of his Ph.D. Thesis is “Evaluation of Contamination Potential and Treatment Techniques of Leachate Generated from Landfill Lysimeter”. The conducted research work is the first of this kind in Bangladesh. The outcome of this dissertation can be used to evaluate the level of contamination of the leachate  generated from landfill and hence the appropriate techniques can be proposed to treat the leachate to reduce the contamination at an acceptable level before discharge it into the natural streams. 6 Journal and 18 Conference papers already published from the findings of this research. The European Commission’s funded project “WasteSafe” also provided financial support to this research works. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir , the Vice-Chancellor of KUET and the Professor of Civil Engineering Department, is the supervisor of this Thesis. The External Examiners are Prof. Dr. Raffaello Cossu, University of Padova, Italy; Prof. Dr. Md. Delwar Hossain and Prof. Dr. M. Ashraf Ali from Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology (BUET), Dhaka. Md. Rafizul Islam is an Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering Department of KUET. Earlier, he obtained both the B.Sc. Eng. and M.Sc. Eng. Degrees from this university.


  • Workshop of 'Hall Automation Software' held in KUET

  • A day-long workshop on ‘Hall Automation Software’ was held at KUET on 13 September 2014, arranged by Hall Coordination Committee of KUET. Vice-Chancellor of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir formally inaugurated the workshop as chief guest. The chief guest said, ‘we all have to be changed with the change of age.’ He said the first ever such automation system would greatly help to carry forward the concept of buildind the digital Bangladesh.

    The inaugural function was presided by president of Hall Coordination Committee of KUET Proff. Dr. MM Touhid Hossain while, Director of Institute of Information & Communication Technology (IICT) Prof. Dr. Bashudev Chandra Ghosh were also present as Special Guests. Associate Prof. of the Department of ME and Provost of BSMR hall Dr. Sobahan Mia, Asstt. Prof. of the ME Department and Asstt.Provost of LS hall Md. Helal-An-Nahiyan, Asstt. Programmer of IICT S.M. Saifur Rahman spoke on the ceremony.


  • 4th Inter Department Debate competition held

  • 4th Inter-Department Debate competition successfully held at KUET respectively on 10 September, 2014. The competition took place at the auditorium of KUET. KUET Debating Society (KDS) organized the debate competition. The Department of CSE (Computer Science & Engineering) and the Department of ME ( Mechanical Engineering ) have been honoured as the Champion respectively in Bengali & English part while the Department of URP (Urban andRegional Planning) and the Department of URP-1 have been rewarded as the runner-up respectively in Bangali & English part.

    The Vice-Chancellor of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir who is also the founder moderator of KDS, was present there as the Chief Guest. He enjoyed the final competition and awarded prizes among the winners. Associate Prof. of the Department of ME and Moderator of KDS Dr. Sobahan Mia presided over the ceremony while Dean of the Faculty of CE Prof. Dr. Shibendra Shekher Sikder, Head of the Department of Textile Engineering Prof. Dr. Mihir Ranjan Halder, Deputy Director(Student’s welfare) Dr. G.G. Md.Nawaz ali and Asstt. Prof. of the ME Department Md. Helal-An-Nahiyan present as the special guest in the ceremony. Teachers & students from various Departments, related officers and others were also present there.

  • Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) Association of KUET celebrated farewell of `09 batch and fresher’s reception of `13 batch students on 04 September, 2014 at the University Auditorium. Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Muhammed Alamgir graced the occasion as the chief guest while, Dean (In-Charge)of Faculty of EEE Prof. Dr. Ashraful Ghani Bhuiyan, Head of Department of ECE Prof. Dr. Md. Mostafizur Rahman, Director(Student’s welfare) Prof. Dr. Md. Osman Goni present as the special guest. President of ECE Association Dr. A.B.M. Aowlad Hossain presided over the ceremony. Among Others Associate Prof. of ECE Department Dr. Md. Faruque Hossain and Student Shuvo, Muktadir, Jui, Mukit, Adnan, Sakib, Ahanaf Islam, Mikon Mahmud spoke on the ceremony. At the ceremony fresher’s were received with flower and crest handed over the graduates by the guests.   • KUET celebrated 11th founding anniversary

  • Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) celebrated its 11th founding anniversary on the campus at 1stth September, 2014 with massive joy and enthusiasms. Established as Khulna Engineering College in 1967, the institution started its academic activities on June 3 in 1974 with a total of 120 students under three departments. Later, it was remodeled as the Bangladesh Institute of Technology (BIT) in 1986 and was upgraded to a University on September 01 in 2003 with the name of “Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET)”.

    To mark the day, students, teachers and staffs of the university took out a colorful procession. Beginning from the KUET administration building, the procession paraded different streets on the campus led by Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr Muhammed Alamgir. Earlier, the VC inaugurated the anniversary programs by releasing balloons and pigeons and hoisted the national flag while Dean of Civil Engineering Faculty also the president of University founding anniversary committee-2014 Professor Dr. Shibendra Shekher Sikder hoisted the university flag at the campus. After the procession, tree plantation, blood donation campaign and poster session were held at KUET auditorium and its adjacent area.

    A technical seminar presented by Dr. G.G. Md. Nawaz Ali, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), Md. Rafizul Islam, Assistant Professor, Department of Civil Engineering (CE), Md. Helal-An-Nahiyan, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering (ME) were held at auditorium.

    Then a discussion were held at the auditorium while vice-chancellor Professor Dr Muhammed Alamgir was the chief guest. While addressed as the chief guest at the discussion Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir urged the students to be more serious and active to acquire knowledge to make good results in all the examinations and to face the challenges of the 21th century. “The brilliant and meritorious students are the assets of the country and they will lead the nation towards development in future by making the best use of their merit and talents,” he said. KUET achieved a high reputation at home and abroad for its unique academic and research environment and becomes natural choice for the fresh meritorious students to be enrolled, he added. Chaired by the Dean of Civil Engineering Faculty also the president of University founding anniversary committee-2014 Professor Dr Shibendra Shekhar Shikder, the discussion was addressed, among others, by Dean of Mechenical Engineering(ME) Faculty Prof. Dr. Md. Syed Ali Molla, Dean of Electrical and Electronic Engineering(EEE) Faculty Prof. Dr. Md. Nurunnabi Mollah and Director of Student Welfare Prof. Dr. Md. Osman Gani. Director of institute, heads of different departments, directors, hall provosts, other teachers, officers, staffs and students were also attended in the discussion.

    Screening of short film was displayed at the auditorium, laboratories of different Faculties were opened for visitors and a charity football match was also held on the campus ground. Special prayer was offered at the university central mosque after Asr prayers. University’s cultural organisations and theater groups organised cultural programs at the campus.
