Water Resources Engineering Laboratory

The Hydraulics Laboratory consists of a physical modelling facility and a numerical modelling facility that work in tandem; one extrapolates results, and the other verifies and calibrates the results. The modelling facilities consist of the following:

  • The physical modelling facility features multiple hydraulic flumes of varying functions and sizes. The larger flume is a o.6-m-wide by 1.6-m-long tilting one, which is under construction. Adjacent to this flume sits a o.o8-m-wide by 5.o-m-long tilting flume presently using for various basic experiments. The flume is equipped with basic flow and depth measuring apparatus.
  • For measuring the two-dimensional velocity field, the laboratory is equipped with Electro-magnetic Current meter with digital display unit, which is paralley connected with PC.
  • The multipurpose hydrologic apparatus equipped with artificial rainfall and runoff system is also available in the laboratory. The apparatus is also used for determining the aquifer characteristics and measuring the well discharge for a particular unconfined aquifer.
  • Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)-based simulation techniques are available for modelling the open channel and river flow systems.
