  • KUET paid homage to the martyred Intellectuals

  • Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) observed Martyred Intellectuals Day on December 14, 2012 Friday by paying respect to the country’s most illustrious sons who were brutally killed by the Pakistani occupation forces and their collaborators in an effort to rid the country of its intelligentsia just two days before the final victory in the nine-month bloody war with Pakistan in 1971.


    KUET took elaborate programmes to observe the day in a befitting manner. Black flags were hoisted and the national flag flew at half-mast atop all important buildings including the Vice-Chancellor’s office at 6:00 a.m. Later at 10:30 a.m. teachers, students, officers and employees gathered and brought out a procession led by the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir. At 3:00 p.m. on 13 December a discussion meeting was also held at the university auditorium with Director (Students’ Welfare) Prof. Dr. Muhammad Harunur Rashid in the chair. Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir was present there as the Chief Guest. Among others Dean of Civil Engineering Faculty Prof. Dr. Md. Bazlar Rahman, Dean of Mechanical Engineering Faculty Prof. Dr. A. N. M. Mizanur Rahman, Director (Research & Extention) Prof. Dr. Naseem Ahmed, Professor of Mechanical Engineering Department Dr. Tarapada Bhowmick, Deputy Registrar G M Shahidul Alam and among staff Md. Rabiul Islam spoke in the meeting. The speakers called for an early trial of the war criminals and the killers of the intellectuals. After Asr prayer a milad-mahfil was arranged at the KUET central mosque to pray for the departed souls of the nation’s illustrious sons. Procession of candle light, cultural programmes related to Intellectuals Day and a drama played by KUET theatre were also held at the auditorium at 7:00 p.m.
