Dr. Shibendra Shekher Sikder, Md. Asaduzzaman, Sujit Kumer Shil, Md. Alamgir Hossain,Suman Halder, Probal Roy are conducting research in this field. This group is capable of preparing some advanced materials, like amorphous ribbon, nanocrystalline ribbon, ferrites and dielectric materials. They are investigating structural, magnetic, dynamic magnetic permeability, dielectric, magneto resistance properties of these materials. Magnetic properties like magnetization, magnetic anisotropy, magnetostriction, Mossbauer analysis, electricalresistivity of hard and soft magneticmaterials in the form of bulk and ribbons are also investigated. This group has collaboration with IPPS, Sweden; the department of Physics, University of Hanoi, Vietnam; Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC); Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology (BUET) and Bangladesh Council for Scientific & Industrial Research (BCSIR).
The faculty member's in Atmospheric Physics group are Dr. Md. MahbubAlam, Dr. Md. Abdullah Elias Akhter, Md. KamrulHasan Reza and Saifullah. The group is working under different projects financed by KUET, UGC and Ministry of Science Information & Communication Technology and Ministry of Education of People's Republic of Bangladesh. The research is concentrated in the simulation of extreme weather Events (e.g. Thunderstorm /norwester's/Tornado, Tropical Cyclone and Heavy Rainfall) using Advanced Research and Forecasting (WRF-ARW) Model and Regional Climate Model. The objective of this research group is to identify the dynamical and thermodynamical properties for the formation and propagation of extreme weather events. The group is also working on Climate Change over the region. This group has an excellent collaboration with different university and organization like Bangladesh Meteorological Department.
Prof. Dr. Jolly Sultana has been working in this area. This group has an active collaboration with, Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission, Nuclear Medicine Center, Khulna, Bangladesh. Research works in this branch are mainly medical physics, health physics, radioactivity, radiation dosimetry and radiation Protection. She investigates the quality control technique of the machines in diagnosis with radiation. She also works for the treatment of various diseases and cancer with radiation.
Department of Physics has an enriched Laboratory for under graduate 1st year B.Sc. Eng. Students since the beginning of the journey of the department in 1973. More than twenty (20) experiments are set up for the B.Sc. Engineering students of different departments of Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) in this lab. This laboratory has the apparatus to conduct various experiments for students to satisfy the academic curriculum .The experiment is updating time to time with the development of Science and Information and Communication Technology.The experiments are directly performed by the students under the closed observation of teachers. Two experienced lab assistantsalso help students in this laboratory.
The department of Physics has a library on the 2nd floor of Science Building. This library has a good collection of specialized text, reference books, valuable documents and reports on various fields of physics. It has a smart collection of research reports, conference proceedings and design manuals etc. Internet facilities are available in this library for Postgraduate Students. The library is open for all students and teachers of the Physics Department. It is open through all days of the week from 8:oo AM to o8:oo PM.
